What this checker can catch
The checker compares your entered cover width and height with the calculated target size. It can catch common setup mistakes such as missing bleed, front-cover-only documents, or stale spine widths after a page-count change.
It does not inspect your PDF artwork, fonts, color profile, transparency, or image resolution.
Use after rejection
If KDP reports a cover size or bleed error, enter the intended trim, page count, paper type, and the actual file size. The mismatch can point to which dimension needs to be rebuilt.
Example trim and paper references
| Preset | Use case |
|---|---|
| 5 x 8 in | Compact fiction and nonfiction paperbacks. |
| 5.5 x 8.5 in | Common memoir, fiction, and trade paperback size. |
| 6 x 9 in | Popular trade paperback and low-content book size. |
| 7 x 10 in | Workbooks, manuals, and larger nonfiction. |
FAQ
What tolerance does the checker use?
The browser checker treats differences within 0.01 inch as close. You should still verify with KDP before upload.
Can it read my PDF automatically?
Not in v1. This first version checks dimensions you enter manually.
