Paperback inputs
A paperback wrap depends on trim width, trim height, manuscript page count, paper type, and bleed. The spine changes when the page count or paper type changes.
For a left-to-right paperback, the cover file is arranged back cover, spine, then front cover.
Paperback output checklist
After calculating, compare your design document size with the full cover size. Then check whether spine text is allowed, whether the barcode reserve is clear, and whether important text stays away from trim and bleed edges.
Example trim and paper references
| Preset | Use case |
|---|---|
| 5 x 8 in | Compact fiction and nonfiction paperbacks. |
| 5.5 x 8.5 in | Common memoir, fiction, and trade paperback size. |
| 6 x 9 in | Popular trade paperback and low-content book size. |
| 7 x 10 in | Workbooks, manuals, and larger nonfiction. |
FAQ
Can I use this for hardcover?
No. This v1 calculator is scoped to paperback covers because hardcover wrap and hinge rules require a different model.
Can I use a custom trim size?
Yes. Choose Custom and enter trim width and trim height in inches, then verify that the selected size is allowed for your KDP marketplace.
